Fly in was started over thirty years ago by Lawrie Kelsall and has traded continuously in differing capacities ever since. Over the years it has been a strong supporter of many aspects of aeromodelling with perhaps a lean towards Free flight scale and indoor, and was also one of the first hobby shops to stock all manner of the electric modeler's needs. This included the range of Ballards Round the Pole accessories, Knight Pridham free flight power trains, and in more recent years kits, motors, batteries, esc, propellors, and all the other electric bits the sporting electric flyer could want. This didn't mean Fly In was just an electric shop, it was just one of the minority with an understanding of what the electric flyer needed.
Lawrie had a great reputation for sourcing the unusual and taking pleasure in finding that special item to satisfy the customers demands. That is something that the new owners, Alexis and Kerry Scott are trying really hard to build on. We as the new management are striving to be an independent shop, the store that offers advice based on experience rather than commercial interest in a product. We have attempted in every way to maintain an individual and unique flavor to our shop by keeping the variety high and not going down the path of only selling the brands that are the fashion at the time, but trying to carry lines that maybe haven't been supported because they don't fit in the oppositions product range. Often there are many more choices out there than the ones you see in your local shop.
Fly In prided itself in being an Aeromodelling only business fot the first thirty years. When we purchased Fly In we found that customer demand for a broader range was overwhelming so inline with our policy of trying to fullfill the customers dreams we now proudly stock R/C boats, yatchs, cars, tanks, and some quite unusual vehicles aswell. To some up, what is Fly In? Fly In is the shop to talk to if you want an unbiased hands on approach to your needs.
Fly in, is owned and managed by Alexis Scott. Alexis is a lifelong, second generation, modeler who has enjoyed a life that includes many of the different types of models sold at Fly In. He has also competed in many modeling disciplines from Free Flight Hand Launch Glider to R/C Aerobatics. Alexis is also a competent flyer of helicopters and finds real pleasure in the art of sailplane flight from scale sailplanes to ballistic electric gliders. Tossed in amongst all this activity there has been a few years of racing both nitro and electric cars and he's a keen student of all forms of motorsport. he has also dabbled in boats powered and sail, but will confess to not being an authority on matters marine.

Fly In has a small band of very keen modelers with many years of experience who help out over the more hectic times and the experiences and skills of these guys is a huge extension of the resource that is available to you the modeler. Alexis often refers to, and confers with them so that when a curly question is asked every effort is made to make sure you get the right answer for your application not just an answer.
Alexis is a husband and father of three, his son Hamish who regular visitors to the shop will no doubt meet, is also a keen modeler who now competes in aerobatic competition and is he's quite the student of the hobby, eager to help out with advice wherever he can. His wife Kerry does much of the behind the scenes work that keep Fly In's doors open, and helps to keep Alexis on the path to building Fly In into the fantastic shop it is becoming.
